School Feeding and Nutritional Support

In the remote regions of Ghana, where access to healthcare is limited, St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church School—supported by the Perfect Light Foundation—has become a beacon of hope. By combining education with primary healthcare, preventive medicine, clean water, nutrition, and spiritual support, the school is transforming lives. Beyond statistics, the real impact is seen in the personal stories of students, families, and staff whose lives have been changed through this holistic model of health and education.

Nutrition is a crucial but often overlooked element of child health. At St. Mary, a daily school feeding program provides each child with a hot, balanced meal. For children facing malnutrition or nutrient deficiencies, this daily meal supports immune function, physical growth, and cognitive performance.

A teacher recounted a young boy who was consistently fatigued and underweight. After months of consistent attendance and participation in the school’s meal plan, the boy showed noticeable improvement. His body mass index (BMI) increased to a healthy level, and his academic engagement improved. The correlation between nutrition and academic performance is now clearly recognized by both staff and parents.

By supporting St. Mary and similar initiatives, we move closer to a future where every child has the right to education, healthcare, and a chance to thrive.
