A Story of Sanitation and Typhoid Prevention
In communities where clean water is scarce, waterborne diseases like typhoid fever are prevalent. Before the installation of the school’s borehole water system, many children came to school already suffering from symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and fever due to contaminated water at home.
One mother shared how her daughter used to suffer recurrent gastrointestinal issues until she began attending St. Mary, where access to potable water, daily hygiene routines, and sanitation education dramatically improved her condition. Through health literacy programs, both students and parents have learned to boil water, wash hands with soap, and store food hygienically, significantly reducing infection rates in the school and neighboring homes.
